Kokum grows only along the coastal Western Ghats of India — Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, and Kerala. It is not a commodity ingredient. Kokum butter is extracted from the seed of the Garcinia Indica fruit and has a unique fatty acid profile: high in stearic and oleic acids in a ratio that allows it to penetrate the epidermis while leaving no greasy residue. Its Snigdha quality in Ayurvedic medicine — deep, nourishing, without heaviness — is the quality that makes it the anchor of this formula. Most importantly for a rich moisturiser: Kokum is non-comedogenic at any concentration. It will not block pores regardless of how much is used. This is what makes a butter-based formula viable for combination and normal skin, not just dry.

Shea butter is the most clinically studied natural emollient in cosmetic formulation — and for good reason. Its fatty acid profile (oleic, stearic, palmitic, and linoleic acids) mirrors the skin's own natural lipid composition, making it exceptionally well-tolerated even on sensitised skin. Vitamins A and E are present in unrefined shea at meaningful concentrations — Vitamin A for cellular renewal, Vitamin E as a lipid-soluble antioxidant protecting the skin barrier from oxidative degradation. In the triple-butter system, Shea contributes documented barrier repair alongside Kokum's deep penetration and Cocoa's occlusive hold.

Cocoa butter has the highest melting point of the three butters in this formula — which is precisely why it is included. It melts on contact with skin temperature, forming a slow-release occlusive layer that holds moisture in the skin for hours after application. Where Kokum penetrates and Shea repairs, Cocoa holds — preventing transepidermal water loss (TEWL) throughout the day. Together the three butters create a complete moisture system: penetration, repair, and retention. Rich in phytosterols and polyphenols with additional antioxidant activity. The subtle natural scent of Cocoa butter grounds the formula's botanical fragrance without competing with Rosa Damascena and Sandalwood.

The same GI-certified Kashmir saffron used in the Saffron Glow Serum — hand-harvested from the Pampore Valley at 3,500 metres — but extracted differently for the moisturiser. Oil extraction preserves the fat-soluble fractions of saffron: crocin and crocetin, the carotenoid compounds responsible for saffron's documented tyrosinase inhibition and antioxidant activity. Water-extracted saffron, used in most skincare products, loses these fat-soluble actives entirely. In a butter-based moisturiser, the oil-extracted form is correct — it integrates fully into the lipid base and is held against the skin surface for hours rather than seconds, maximising the brightening and antioxidant action across the full wear period.

Sea Buckthorn is one of the most nutrient-dense botanical oils in skincare formulation. Its omega-7 (palmitoleic acid) content is exceptional — omega-7 is the fatty acid that directly supports skin cell regeneration and barrier restoration, and Sea Buckthorn is one of the only plant sources that contains it at meaningful concentration. It also carries omega-3, omega-6, vitamins C and E, beta-carotene, and over 190 bioactive compounds. The deep amber-orange colour of the oil is the source of the formula's natural golden tone — a colour we chose to keep rather than neutralise with titanium dioxide or synthetic whiteners. The colour of the moisturiser is the colour of Sea Buckthorn. It is not a dye.

Bakuchiol is the plant-derived answer to the retinol question. Extracted from the seeds of the babchi plant — Psoralea Corylifolia — it has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries and is now the subject of significant clinical research. Multiple peer-reviewed studies confirm Bakuchiol stimulates retinol-like gene expression: upregulating collagen synthesis, increasing cellular turnover, and reducing the appearance of fine lines and hyperpigmentation — without retinol's photosensitivity, irritation, barrier disruption, or pregnancy contraindications. It can be used morning and evening. It does not require gradual introduction. It is safe for all skin types including sensitive. In Ayurveda it is classified under Rasayana herbs — substances that promote longevity and tissue renewal.

The essential oil fraction of Rosa damascena — distinct from the hydrosol used in the Pure Rose Water Toning Mist. Where the hydrosol carries the water-soluble actives, Rosa Damascena flower oil contains the concentrated fat-soluble aromatic compounds: geraniol, citronellol, nerol, and eugenol. Documented anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing at trace concentrations. In the moisturiser it plays a dual role: active botanical ingredient with calming, Pitta-pacifying properties, and the primary fragrance note. Sourced from the same Pushkar rose fields as the hydrosol. Not a synthetic rose accord — the scent character of the two is incomparable.

True Santalum album from Mysore — the same sandalwood used in the Saffron Glow Serum and the Turmeric Mask. Alpha- and beta-santalol provide documented antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and calming action. In the moisturiser, sandalwood grounds the fragrance system — providing the deep, warm base note that Rosa Damascena and Vanilla Planifolia rest on. The three-note fragrance system of Rosa Damascena (top), Sandalwood (base), and Vanilla (mid) is entirely natural. No synthetic fixatives, no synthetic accords, no synthetic fragrance of any kind.

Jojoba is technically a liquid wax ester — not an oil — and this distinction matters. Its molecular structure is the closest of any botanical to human sebum, which is why it integrates seamlessly into the skin without triggering sebum overproduction or congestion. In the Saffron Radiance Moisturiser, Jojoba plays a structural role alongside Sepiplus 400: it is the ingredient responsible for the weightless, fast-absorbing finish despite the triple-butter base. Without it, a formula this butter-rich would sit heavily on the skin. With it, absorption completes in 60–90 seconds.
